The Dawn – Oil, 48 x 60 – Updated 2/3/2009

Good evening all,

Yes, that’s correct. I’ve changed the title once again. In fact I’ve changed the entire concept and have reverted back to my original idea. This idea is similar to ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Bosch but with a much more vibrant and psychedelic appearance to it. The word Dawn means the first appearance of light in the morning followed by sunrise so that’s the basic idea.

In this painting, the monkeys in the foreground are pondering the vision in front of them and have become euphoric with the colorful vegetation starting to grow on the path. The picture below doesn’t quite capture the color, but there is pink, red, blue, and yellow plants growing evermore present as the path goes into the light. Once through the trees and into light, the world becomes a euphoric psychedelic journey of colorful and delightful eye-candy treats. Somewhat like ‘Psychedelic Living Room’ but with more of a realistic feel.

Since I reverted back to the original concept, I had to paint over all of the beautiful monuments I sketched. It pained me to no end but the evolution concept was starting to become chaotic and had no structure. It didn’t feel creative and it didn’t feel colorful. I am very excited about this new direction and look forward to working on it.

A Brief History of Mankind - Updated 1.4.2009

Hello once again,

With plenty of time off for the holidays, I was able to spend some quality time with this painting. It's hard to believe that I am still in the 'sketch' stage but proper planning is required for a painting of this size. I really like where this painting is going but I do have a question for those of you out there. Does the Cliff/Ocean scene work? The plan is to cut it off at the top (just above the ocean line) and continue, on land, with the timeline. I wanted to include this scene so there would be a section dedicated to the Neanderthals/Mammoths/etc. I'm not sure it's going to work, what are your thoughts?

Also, I am not happy with 'The Human Story' title. I am leaning towards changing it to 'A Brief History of Mankind' or something similar. I can't quite create a simple title about what this painting represents. This painting represents the evolution of monkeys into man and our creations since then. It also represents how we mysteriously and dramatically changed from tree dwelling apes into me, typing this on a blog. I'm sure I will think of something but in the meantime, feel free to offer your suggestions.
